Our Story

When Newton Porter opened his first saddle and harness shop he went to work intending to "build the best saddle possible". Only the finest quality materials were used. Trees were individually made in Portland, Oregon. Bark-tanned leather was hand-picked from markets in San Francisco, California. Every saddle was hand-stitched by craftsmen who took great pride in their trade.

Since 1916 Porters has maintained a saddle registry of build cards. This is the first glimpse into the history of each N. Porter saddle offering the original owner's name, the serial number, and so much more. Though we're no longer making saddles, we are still providing services to clients around the world utilizing these historical build cards.

Today, our efforts are to connect N. Porter saddle owners with their saddle's history, by verification, and authentication utilizing the 30,000 build cards in our library.

Should your search lead you to an N. Porter saddle, we're here with its history.
